A Rose by Any Other Name

Students will learn how to: 1. Use Stick n' Burn to transfer a pattern to the front of the gourd. 2. Burn the outline of the rose and leaves using a script writer or skew pen 3. Add shading using a spoon shader pen/tip 4. Create stitching "holes" with small ball pen/tip; 5. Use the ball/tip to shade the outer band around the design. 6. Apply GourdMaster Ink Dye to the outer region of the gourd, set the ink. 7. Use Gourd Wax.

Spooky Spirits

We will concentrate on the inside of the gourd to create a fun or spooky cemetery. You will learn to make the inside and bottom level, add straw, then make a tree from wire. You'll also make a tombstone, and a fence, which will all be placed inside the gourd. A light will also be added to the inside. Creepy cloth will already be attached to the outside of the gourd, and if time allows, you will paint this. These techniques can be used for other scenes you may like to do in the future.

Weaving "Outside the Box"

Explore new materials as you learn to weave on the outside of a gourd. By combining different textures and colors each person will create their own unique functional woven vase. Techniques will include twinging, three-rode wale, undulating waves, and a tighter rim.

Students will use woodburning and ink dyes to make a beautiful box with hinges. The lid will attach with hinges. The instructor will have a wood burner available to rent for $10, if needed.
