Small Beaded Basket

This is a fairly easy basket to weave. we will use 3-4 colors of reed and weave a 3 rod wale weave on a prepared basket about 5-6" across the top. It is a fun class, and you will finish the basket easily in the allotted class time. Beads are put on the spokes first and weaving begins after that. The top is an attractive completion to the project. Jim is a very helpful and patient as he teaches this small group.

Butterflies and Flowers - Woodburned

Woodburning with Stick & Burn. We will put our design on a medium pear gourd about 7" tall. You can add as many butterflies and flowers as time allows. then you will learn to use Welburn Ink Dyes for color, if time allows.

Gingko Leaves with
Textured Background

This carved gourd design has textural two carved backgrounds that offset the gingko leaves. Overdying after carving is another technique used as well The gourds will be prepped, cut, cleaned, and basic background dye applied and basis outline of design will be drawn to save class time for carving and overdying. Students will be able to seal the finished gourd.

Gourd Shekerees

In this class you will learn the basics of creating a wonderful, playable shekeree of your own. You will learn various patterns and styles of cording and beading and have a wide variety of colors of cord and a vast number of choices of beads to create your own unique musical instrument. Many examples of various styles will be provided along with a tutorial. Some students who pick a complicated pattern may not finish in the allotted class time but will have learned all the skills necessary to easily finish in a short time afterwards.

Half Leaf Luffa Insert

This class will teach you the technique of preparing and using luffa as a gourd insert. You will also learn carving techniques including the new look of scribble carving. Students will cut out the leaf half, and carve the other half and scribble-carve the border and rim. The student will learn to prepare the luffa and to insert it into the gourd. Because of the amount of scribble-carving, some students may not finish the rim in class, but will have learned how to finish at home.
