In this class you will learn how to apply Alcohol Inks to the bowls, dry and glaze the inks, bead the rim, and finish the inside of the bowl.  We'll discuss the alcohol inks, their properties, and the various ways to apply them, and the various ways to apply beads to the gourds and the tools you'll need.

In this class, students will have fun converting a gourd into a fish that is trying to catch its tail.  After cutting out the fish, we will use Adirondack Inks for coloring the fish and water.  You will be provided a clean gourd (approx 28-30 inches in circumference) readh to cut and color.

In this class, students will use a tobacco box or canteen gourd to woodburn a design on.  We will add alcohol ink and gold leaf and will carve some additional design elements with a burr bit.

          Charcoal Owl

After wood burning the border, you will paint the background.  Next you will learn how to prepare the surface for the charcoal application.  Charcoal pencils and blending tools will be used to bring the owl to life.

                  Pine Needle Coiled Hair Slides

Coiled on a round gourd shard that is predrilled, this is a fun project for yourself or gift giving.  We will use one stitch throughout this project and learn how to adjust the coil for the beginning and end of project, as well as how to do closed coiling for the place where the slide fits in.  Students pick their choice of one woodburned shard and receive one blank predrilled shard to do on their own.  Many choices of thread color will be available for class use only, as well as hair slide stick piece and glycerin pine needles.  I will be glad to share various ways to decorate your blank shard.

Students will create their own mask working from a variety of materials that I will supply.  Students will have examples of mask design to help make a choice for their own mask as well as many different beads, cording, feathers, and dried flowers and different colors of paints.  Let your imagination be your guide!

                 Western Tooled Leather Gourd

Learn how to create the look of leather tooling on a gourd.  We will use both pyrography and ink dyes to create the shading.  Particpants will wood-burn the outline, stipple and color the background and shade the tooled design.  You will also learn how to create the appearance of stitching and install a faux turquoise stud.  Some students may not finish the project in the allotted class time, but full instructions will be provided and all techniques till be demonstrated in class.
