Students will learn how to: 1. Apply the alcohol inks to create a lovely drizzled effect; 2. Dry the inks and glaze the finish; 3. insert a rawhide lace/strip to form a handle; 4. Apply a wet goat skin to the head of the gourd, using upholstery tacks around the circumference; and 5. Insert the spring into the center of the skin. Note: the students will not be able to actually insert the spring during the class, as the skin must be thoroughly dry to do so.

Skills Taught: Staining, Sealing, Stretching a skin and securing it to the drum head; inserting the spring into the skin.

Frosty

Spend a morning creating "Frosty". After cutting out the face, we will paint the gourd using gesso, and chalk paint.
While the paint is drying, students will make a nose and pipe from banana gourds. The final touch: decorating the hat.

Carve and Shimmer

Carve poppyseed pods on a dyed cannonball gourd, add in some stamp printing for depth of design, and shimmering paints for sparkle. There is also additional carving in the background and around the gourd. The gourd will be prepped, dyed, and all supplies except carvers will be provided. Please bring the correct collet or chuck for your carver with a very small ball bit or straight bit.
I do have 6 carvers with bits that I can loan out if you do not have a carver and would like to try this project without the investment. Please email at artbasgo@gmail.com if you would like to reserve one.

Beaded Rim with Gemstones

Students will color with inks or leather dyes on the outside of the gourd, and drill holes for the rim to be laced onto. This is an easy class that produces a beautiful gourd bowl. I will supply the cut gourds and the gem stones, wire cutters and scissors, etc.

Faux Leather Tooled Gourd

Come and learn how to create the look of leather tooling on a gourd bowl. We will transfer furnished pattern and wood burn the outlines. Create and burn the borders and shade the pattern. Next we will color the gourd, the stipple and b/g and add faux stitches to the border.
